What is a warehouse job like?

I'm thinking about working at a sporting goods warehouse, I am 18 btw. I was just wondering what kind of work do you do? I hear the pay is good, is it just unloading/moving items?

pretty straight forward depending on if your in the shipping department or the receiving department. As both include general jobs like working with various forklifts and basic math. In specific jobs there are order pulling, palletizing, loading trucks , packaging, stocking, inventory. Many of these jobs are generally basic and easy to learn. Most warehouses can be fast paced meaning they are under the watch so employees are constantly faced with deadlines that must be met and some instances you will challenged with lifting of heavy items on a continence basis. Another aspect is safety and most all warehouses stress safety so proper safety work wear will be addressed as well procedures. Most warehouse jobs are great, simple and safe. Depends on the job but some warehouses want you to work a forklift, pack boxes, move stuff, etc. I worked at a radio shack warehouse and did quality control, which had me test the products before packing them back up for shipment.

my boyfriend works in a wal mart distribution warehouse.. but they're all pretty much the same. You unload items from one truck I believe into another. It's hard work. He only works 3 days a week, but to him, it's like working 7 days a week. he works 12 hours shifts, sometimes more. You lift tons of heavy items, yes the pay is good.. my bf has been doing it since he was 17 and he is now 24.. and he gets paid 17 an hour. If you can stand doing the work, kudos to you. For others, there are other jobs at a warehouse that can be done besides shipping, there is security and clergical jobs..
