What do I have to do to become a UPS truck driver?

I am only 16, and I am aware you have to be older, but I'm going to college and all of that, but when im done i would like to become a UPS driver. I was wondering what I would have to do to accomplish this... thanks!

UPS is one of the few companies that makes a big deal about "hiring from within". They are known for promoting their own employees from the bottom up, to higher and higher positions, even providing scholarships and schooling for employees who wish to attain management or degree level jobs within the company. They claim everyone at the top of the company, including the CEO, started out as a truck loader. Generally, everyone has to start out and "pay their dues" loading trucks or being a package sorter. In some areas, they start out hiring people as seasonal workers (around thanksgiving-xmas) or part-time workers (less than 30 hours per week). Pay is reasonable considering what you're doing (about $10 per hour at least where I was) and you get full benefits even if you're part time (almost unheard of in other companies). If you wish to be a truck driver, you've just got to put in the work, stay with the company and get on the waiting list for that job. Depending on the area, the wait can be as long as 2-3 years or 6-8 months. In the meantime, you do have the ability to move up from truck loader to a number of other warehouse jobs that pay better and offer full-time hours. Delivery drivers make upwards of 70-80,000 per year and the semi truck drivers make slightly more, from what I've heard. You've got to be at least 21 in order to get your CDL. Hope this helps!

You would probably need a Commercial Drivers LIcense (CDL). So apply to UPS for any kind of job, and then once your in, express a desire to be a driver and they will probably pay for the training to get the CDL.

You have to put in at least 8-9 years working for UPS before they will even let you drive. People you see driving are those who have done jut that. They let people drive based on seniority not on merits and such. So if you wanted to drive you should start by being a part time package handler or such, they do give you all the benefits of a full time person and when you're in college they help you pay for school as well, they have great benefits. Just make sure it works with your class schedule because you must promise at least a year working with them and you can't take off for any reason.
