What's the difference between a Sales associate and Customer service positions?
Asked by Sophia
I asked the manager what positions they had open at this clothing store, and he said that they were looking for a position for customer service. Does customer service inculde sales associates, or is it something different from a sales associate position? And if so, what does a person in a customer service position do?
Thanks for explaining the differences.
But then in your opinion, which of them is harder?

Customer service positions are people who are behind the counters they handles people that are return items. A sales Assoicate does this
Ensure that each customer receives outstanding service by providing a friendly environment, which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining solid product knowledge and all other aspects of customer service. Maintain an awareness of all promotions and advertisements. Assist in floor moves, merchandising, display maintenance, and housekeeping . Aid customers in locating merchandise. Communicate customer requests to management.Any other tasks as assigned from time to time by any manager. That is the ddifferent.
I work at a department store as a sales associate. Sometimes if the lines are long and the sales associate need help then the customers service people can ring up customers at their stations. But customer service is only for returns and problems with items and exchange.

Customer service people usually work in the returns department and have to talk with customers about that and any other problems they have.
Sales people usually stock their departments and answer questions about the merchandise in their assigned area.
Which is harder?:
It really depends on the type of person you are. If you are comfortable with dealing with people with problems all day, and you are patient and understanding, customer service is fine. If you aren't then it will get on your nerves and you won't like the job.
For sales you need to have lots of energy to restock your department all day. Hang things people have tried on back on hangers, get them other items if they ask. Bend, carry, lift, stuff like that to keep the department stocked.
So it all depends on you. There really isn't one better or worse.
