How did you become a PA or secretary?

How did you manage to become a Personal Assistant or Secretary? How many years of relevant experience do you need to have to get a secretarial or personal assistant position? Which relevant qualifications do you need to have in the UK? I have been looking for this kind of work for a long time, but unsuccessfully so far. Your comments will be appreciated.

I had absolutely no experience when I got the first secretarial job I worked. I just learned on the job as I went along. I moved shortly after landing that job, so I just moved on to another job in the same field and kept working my way up with more and more work experience.
