Job Description
The job of keeping the Army fleet of vehicles mobile relies heavily on the training of the Army motor transport operator. This specialist is primarily responsible for supervising or operating wheel vehicles to transport personnel and cargo. Duties include:
- Driving vehicles over all types of roads and terrain
- Checking oil, fuel and other fluid levels, as well as tire pressure
- Keeping records of mileage driven and fuel and oil used
- Washing vehicles and perform routine maintenance and repairs

Training
To become an Army motor transport operator, you must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and six weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers:
- Accident prevention
- Safety check procedures
- International road signs
- Basic vehicle maintenance
- Transporting hazardous materials
